Cheddleton Parish Council manages the 11 acre playing field shown in the photograph above, on behalf of the charity 'Playing Fields in Trust'. In addition to a wide range of modern play equipment (aerial ropeway, swings, multiplay climbing tower etc) for children of 5 years and upwards, there is also a separate securely fenced play area for 1 to 4 year olds.
CHEDDLETON PLAYING FIELDS
WILL USERS PLEASE NOTE THAT THE "ZIP WIRE" IS DESIGNED FOR USE BY ONLY ONE PERSON AT A TIME.
IF THE EQUIPMENT CONTINUES TO BE ABUSED BY MULTIPLE ADULT USERS THEN THE COUNCIL WILL NOT
CONTINUE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE AND WILL HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO TAKE IT OUT OF USE
For the sporting minded, there is a full size football field and a 1/4 size Five a Side junior football pitch, as well as 2 full size Tennis Courts, one of which has only recently been resurfaced.
All facilities are available to residents without charge.
In addition to the main playing field situated in the centre of the village, there is also a small play area with swings etc situated alongside the River Churnet at Bridge Eye which is at the junction of Cheadle Road and Station Road.
The bottom photograph shows the memorial garden situated on the site of the old bowling green. This is a quiet planted area, a central feature of which is a memorial to Rodney Hine and his partner's children, Samantha, Patricia and Marcus Carter who were tragically killed in a housefire in the village in March 2006.
Please note that the football field is only available for use by prior arrangement with the Council's Playing Field Management Committee, usually by a team for the full season. Enquiries to the Clerk - see Clerk & Councillors page for contact details.
